Valley Home Spring
Strawberries are Farm-Fresh, Sun-Ripened, Flavorful and
Nutritious...and they're fun to pick!
Pre-Picked or Pick-Your-Own
berries are waiting for you on the farm. We're easy
to find...just 1 1/2 miles east of downtown Wartrace,
Tennessee.
Opening Day For our
early Sweet Charlie berries is April 23rd. The Sweet Charlies are so much in demand as the "first" berries,
it is best to call ahead for "pre-picked" availability.
Remember, as we do, Mother Nature determines picking.
The Chandler Berries
will ripen about a week after the Sweet Charlies and
we'll have fresh berries for you until mid-June. Visit
as often as you like, we are open 7 days a week during
the spring season. Mon.-Sat. 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sun.
Noon to 5 p.m. Try our berries in our most popular
gallon-size white berry baskets or choose from quarts or
traditional 8-quart flats. The season is short and the
berries are too good to miss. The first two weeks of May
are the peak time of the season. Just remember Mother's
Day weekend is one of the best times to visit...great
berries ad a great selection of Mother's Day fresh baked
gifts.
Our Farm Market offers
some great strawberry treats in season. In addition to
our fresh strawberries, we also offer fresh Strawberry
Cakes, Strawberry Pies, Strawberry Breads, Award-Winning
Valley Home Strawberry Jam, Wild Blackberry Jam, Peach
Jam, Farm Fresh Honey, Strawberry Honey Pops, and Valley
Home Strawberry Ice Cream. They are made fresh daily but
it's always better to call ahead and reserve your cakes
and pies at (931) 389-6470.
Off-Site Berry Sales:
If you just can't make it out to the farm, but you would
really like to have some of our fresh strawberries, look

Here's some helpful
strawberry tips:
When picking berries, be sure
the cap remains on the strawberry by pinching the stem
between the thumb and forefinger. This will prevent
damage to both the fruit and the strawberry plant.
Always wash fruit before eating.
When freezing berries, look
for the ones that are firm, yet fully ripe. These are
the best for all your needs - freezing, preserving, or
eating just the way they are.
When storing berries, in the
refrigerator, do not remove caps or wash the berries
until you are ready to use them. When caps are removed
before use, the berries lose some of their moisture.
Washing early tends to bruise the berries and they lose
their freshness. Arrange berries in a shallow container
and keep at 35 degrees for best results. Berries are the
very best when prepared and eaten the same day.
When preparing berries, place
in a strainer and rinse with cool water. To remove the
caps, give the caps a gentle twist or use the point of a
sharp knife or your thumbnail trying not to remove any
of the berry.
When freezing berries, place
one layer of clean whole berries on a cookie sheet and
freeze until firm. Remove from the cookie sheet and
package in freezer bags and seal. Serve slightly frozen
to help fruit retain its shape.
For frozen sugar packs, slice
berries in halves or thirds. Mix berries with sugar (1
cup sliced fruit to 1 cup sugar) and allow to stand
until sugar dissolves (about 10-15 minutes). Pack the
fruit and juice into freezer bags. Leave 1/4" head space
for pints.
When measuring:
1 pint = 2 1/2 cups whole berries
1 pint = 2 1/4 cups sliced berries
1 pint = 1 2/3 cups pureed berries
1 pint = about 12-14 large berries
